A Fundraiser Who Gets It
“You have a big-hearted mission and I’m here to help you achieve it. I’m a passionate leader who delights in fostering organizational growth and long-term success for nonprofits.”
Through 20 years of fundraising and nonprofit leadership, Kristi has seen organization after organization hire consultants only to be left with unsustainable, forgotten plans. That’s why she’s committed to not only leaving clients with concrete, actionable plans and innovative strategies, but establishing a true partnership and ally for the future.
Experience & Expertise
“I'm a natural relationship builder who loves to put plans into action. Championing ‘firsts’ for organization is my specialty.”
Kristi has built a strong reputation within the community and is sought after for both her expertise and thought leadership.
Born and raised in Indiana, her nonprofit management career began in New York City. After earning her master’s in social work at NYU, she went on to work in program and development director roles for nationally-known, time-tested institutions, including: YMCA, JCC, Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Boys & Girls Clubs.
Always one to pursue growth and hone skills, she’s proudly completed:
UWCI Women Leaders Series
CICF Women's Fund Options Program

Meet the Team
In the last 5 years, Kristi Howard-Shultz Consulting has worked with over 30 non-profits on a wide variety of projects. Along with Kristi, meet the team behind the work:
Sierra has strengths in data analysis, strategy development, relationship management, writing and editing. She earned a master’s in public health from the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health and, before joining the team, spent several years as a Senior Strategist for a healthcare consulting firm.
At KHS Consulting, she enjoys being part of a team of like-minded individuals and using her skills to help our clients continue to make a difference in the communities they serve.
Ashley brings to the team her strong education, data analysis, research and writing skills. She earned her Elementary Education degree from Olivet Nazarene University, and taught for 13 years in both the Indianapolis Public Schools and Wayne Township school systems, primarily in Kindergarten.
Ashley loves that grant writing allows her to get to know the heart of an organization in a unique way, and then gets to help tell their story to further their mission and the people they serve.
Casey has a background in communications, focused on content and project management. She honed her skills in corporate communications and public relations for a variety of clients and, most recently, worked in marketing communications for safety product and school foodservice manufacturers.
The newest member of the team, she has most enjoyed learning about the clients we serve at KHS Consulting, the fulfilling work they do and ways she can contribute to meeting their goals.
"In three short years, Kristi grew our annual giving revenue by 16% and donors by 17%, launched our first Giving Day, which grew to include a whole Philanthropy Week, completed a successful rebrand of our annual fund, grew our leadership annual giving society membership by 20% and operationalized and improved our campaign procedures."
Executive Director of Advancement, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School
“Kristi is an expert facilitator. She asks thoughtful questions, listens to and acknowledges all participants. Kristi leads the discussion. Her style is warm, friendly, inclusive, and direct. She does it all and I learn from her each time!"
